James Mutcher, Director, Mechanical & Equipment, Cando Rail & Terminals
James has more than 15 years of mechanical experience in the rail industry. As the Director of Mechanical & Equipment for Cando Rail & Terminals, James ensures Cando’s locomotive and equipment fleet provides exceptional service to new and existing customers.
James leads Cando’s efforts to have safe, reliable, and lower-emission locomotives and equipment in the field, which includes overseeing the development of Cando’s battery-powered locomotive, the first of its kind in Canada. Prior to his current role, James was the Assistant General Manager of Mechanical, where he oversaw the mechanical aspects of Cando’s locomotive fleet and Cando’s railcar repair line of business.
James joined Cando’s mechanical team in 2013 after working for CN as a Mechanical Supervisor of railcars at Symington Yard in Winnipeg for three years and for VIA as a Mechanical Supervisor for railcars and locomotives for one year. Since joining Cando, James has been instrumental in growing Cando’s locomotive fleet into the third largest in Canada, while at the same time ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction.
