Phase 1 of the Exporail project was completed on May 31, 2003. On that day, the public was allowed to start visiting the Great Hall which houses over 40 pieces of equipment and has 2 specially mounted expositions, namely the Railway Postal Service and Women Railroaders.
Below are photos of the exterior of the Exporail building and some of the locomotives and cars of the CPR and CN historical collections which are on display in the Great Hall.
Visitors are able to walk beneath a steam and a diesel locomotive to see and compare the two different propulsion technologies. The building is fully climate controlled.
Phase 2 of the Exporail project will begin in the fall. This will consist of completing access to the mezzanine, construction of the archives, finishing the display rooms, further installation of exhibits and completion of the offices.
