What We Do

The Railway Association of Canada advocates for and represents the key commuter, goods, tourist and intercity Canadian Rail businesses as well as a growing number of Associate Members in the rail supply and industrial rail operator sectors. Canadian Rail is the fifth largest rail system in the world, the backbone of the transportation system and a major economic driver.

Our mission is to dialogue effectively with both Government and communities on critical issues relating to the transportation system, to foster change and to ensure Rail continues to be safe, secure, competitive and accessible.

RAC develops original research, conducts policy development and educates broadly to inform the conversation and to promote the major role Rail plays today, and will increasingly play in the future, in the economy. Rail moves over 74 million people and more than 70 per cent of all surface goods every year, relieving road congestion and helping limit harmful emissions and employs some 34,000 people throughout Canada.
