Rail is the innovative and essential backbone of the transportation system, embracing an efficient, growing, safe, secure and environmentally sustainable model to move the Canadian economy. Rail moves over 70 million people and more than 70 per cent of all surface goods every year, relieving road congestion and helping limit harmful emissions and employs some 32,000 people throughout Canada.

As representatives for our members, RAC is an authority on issues concerning Canadian Rail and the trusted body Government consults in establishing Regulations and standards. This partnership creates a constructive environment and helps ensure that Rail is safe, secure, competitive and accessible. Regulatory stability and certainty help build an economic model in which significant investments can be confidently made.

Locomotive Emissions Monitoring

The Locomotive Emissions Monitoring Program (LEM) data filing is completed in accordance with the terms of the 2011-2015 Memorandum of Understanding (2011 – 2015 MOU) signed on April 30, 2013, between the Railway Association of Canada (RAC) and Transport Canada (TC) concerning the emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) and criteria air contaminants (CAC) from locomotives operating in Canada. MORE >
