The week of October 3 to 7 saw a lot of emergency responders dealing with railway incidents involving dangerous goods at the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) in Maple Ridge, BC. Fortunately it was all simulated.

The RAC Dangerous Goods team, with the assistance of CN, CPR, Transport Canada, Canexus and CPR Police delivered this successful course.

With a mix of expert lecture and practical, in-field instruction at this world class facility, the students who included industry, railway, transportation emergency response service providers and professional fire fighters were able to respond to a full derailment scenario exercise at the end of the week as a team.
The students can take the skills learned at this course back to their home locations they can use these skills to protect the general public and the environment.

Two more Railway Emergency Response courses will be offered next year at the JIBC, so watch for our registration notice early in 2012.
